If you’re from Texas, you knew who Selena was. Her along with Emilio Navaira made the Tejano music genre popular. I know I grew up with it along with Country Music as did Emilio who at one point moved to Nashville to try his luck with the genre we all love, he wanted to do a cross over. He toured all over the US and of course made several stops at Billy Bob’s Texas.
We learned late today that the legendary Emilio had passed away at the age of 53 of a heart attack in his hometown of San Antonio. He had suffered an accident back in 2008 that left him with a brain injury that most thought had ended his musical career. Emilio had just performed at an arena in the city of Monterrey, Mexico for Mother’s Day and had more dates scheduled on his tour. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Emilio and all his fans.
One of the first to react to the passing of the Tejano Icon was AB Quintanilla, Selena’s brother who shared this message on his Facebook page.
I leave you with a classic, “Como Le Hare”. This is Emilio with his faithful sidekick Raulito after that accident. Emilio also recorded several songs in English, “Life is Good” is below.
