State Fair of Texas: New Foods, Ways to Save & The First “State Fair Treats” Restaurant Opens in Plano

Okay I know i’m not the only one excited about the State Fair of Texas and counting down the days. There are 9 days left, it kicks off on September 30th and runs through October 23rd.

I was honored to have been able to emcee the Big Tex Choice Awards in August and got to try some of the top fried food including the winner, Fried Jello. But there are more new foods! Check them out here. And check some of them out below. There is even Deep Fried Cannoli Bites, Chocolate Tease Wine Cooler and a Deep Fried Bacon Wrapped Tot Dog.

Also, my friends at D Magazine have published a cool article that will show you ways to save big this season. This you must check out here.

There are of course the discount days:

  • Tuesdays: Trade a Dr Pepper can for a $5 ticket.
  • Wednesdays: Trade four cans of food, to be donated to the North Texas Food Bank, for a $4 entry ticket.
  • Thursdays: Bring a 20 oz. bottle of Coke for $6 admission. Seniors (60 and older) get in for free. And if you’ve got a real hankering for fried food, Thrifty Thursdays — a discount promotion on fair food — is back in full force.
  • Also check our Events Page here on KSCS.com for locations on where to find us with those free Fair Tickets around town! Check back daily!

And finally, coming to Plano is the very first State Fair Treats Restaurant! Today was the Grand Opening at the Walmart located at Coit Road and Highway 190 (425 Coit Rd., Plano, TX 75075). Issac Russo who won for most creative this year for his State Fair Cookise plans to open of few of these at other Walmart’s and nationwide. You can of course find his State Fair Cookies there, fried Twinkies and more.
