Our friends from NBC DFW went looking for answers on a question many have asked. Do you have to pay for those Red Light Camera tickets since they have now been banned in Texas? According to Dallas‘ CFO Elizabeth Reich tickets issued prior to June 1, 2019 must still be paid. The program is now shut down.
Frisco and Plano stopped their red light camera operations earlier this month and said pending citations would not be issued. But, both cities said previously issued tickets should be paid. Every city seems to be handling the situation differently with Haltom City ending the program immediately. Officers stopped approving citations as of May 24th. They also stated no future hearings will be held or heard for outstanding violations.
Fort Worth and Garland have also ended the program but they would not collect on citations that have not been paid. Be sure to check ahead with the city that issued your citation to make sure where you stand.
