After 6 weeks of a very public and televised trial, Johnny Depp has won his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard. The civil jury in Virginia found that Amber Heard maliciously defamed Depp in her Washington Post online op-ed and ordered her to pay $15 million. At the same time, the jury found Amber Heard was defamed by Depp’s attorney in statements and an article published in the Daily Mail alleging Depp had been set up by Amber and her friends. The jury there award $2 million.
Johnny Depp was not present when the verdict was read. According to sources telling People.com, “Due to previously scheduled work commitments made before the trial, Mr. Depp will not be physically present for today’s 3 p.m. verdict and will be watching from the United Kingdom.”
