Short On Planes, Southwest Airlines Offers Employee Buyouts.

DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Buyout layoffs at Dallas-based Southwest Airlines follow plane building and delviery issues at Boeing.

Southwest Airlines is offering buyouts to some workers at 18 airports nationwide, as the carrier cuts back on flying planes due to delays in deliveries from its’ builder, Boeing.

Los Angeles International Airport and Hartsfield Jackson International Airport are reported to have the largest number of buyouts offered; customer service agents at Dallas Love Field will be eligible, reports indicate. Southwest is not saying how many jobs it seeks to cut back.

Southwest Airlines expected 79 planes from Boeing but will have just 20 by this year’s end. Boeing faced a 7 week long machinists strike, but it will take time to get up to speed building planes again. Boeing was reported already behind on deliveries at the time the machinist’s strike began in Washington state.
