DALLAS – The Executive Director of the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center has resigned after a WFAA-TV investigation into allegations of filth and juveniles held in the cells in violation of state law.

Director Darryl Beatty denied allegations of mistreatement at the facility, but Friday stepped down with a Monday meeting now planned of the Dallas County Juvenile Board, scheduled to discuss a replacement. Beatty had prior denied allegations regarding filth from current and former employees. A surprise inspection by the state this week may have prompted Beatty’s resignation.

WFAA-TV reports whistleblowers provided WFAA with photos and assertions some children were kept in cells nearly all day, missing school as well, in violation of state law, which requires they be out of their cells 10 hours dailly. WFAA says the reason given was not enough staff.
